  Are there any scholars in the society?

  i was having quite an intense disscussion (ok, argument )with some of my family last weekend.. my brother said in answer to some points that i raised , that the society has scholars who do research and will have the answer to my questions.. i said i know of no sholars in the society, he said thats because the world does not recognise them as such.what i ment (but did not continue saying as the conversation changed direction , again) was that the people who do research and study for the society arent really scholars as they are not free to look for the real truth only to confirm what the society says.their skills are really knowledge of the societies beliefs.. well it is true that a scholar is just someone who has a great knowledge of a particular subject.so you could argue that the society does have scholars as they are people with great knowledge of the organistaions rules .but what must people would mean my scholars are people who put a great deal of time and effort into research and study of an issue as to whether it is true or false, real or make believe.. can the society have scholars in that sense?.

  well a recent watchtower article stated that we could not even have private opinions on bibles matters.. in order to research whether a certain witness view point was valid or not you would have to entertain the idea that a certain viewpoint could be wrong.

  but this would put you at odds with the society , as you cannot think differently even privately your own opinions on bible matters.

  I am asking an honest question here and not being argumentative. Does anyone know of a respected Bible scholar either at WTS HQ or in the JW populace at large. I'm referring to someone with a PhD in the field of "ancient civilizations", "biblical languages", "Jewish history" or any other related endeavor of study? Are there, among JW's any respected writers of published and accepted works on these subjects? If there are, I for one would be interested in knowing who they are.

  Students of Comparative Religion in the University of Phoenix online programs don't count. Sorry!

  If I can't use whole blood as in transfusions, but can use blood fractions and not violate the societies blood ban, then why can't I have sex outside of marriage as long as I use a condom and no fluids are exchanged or there is no direct tissue contact? The reasoning seems sound to me in either case.

  While I have great admiration for Ray Franz and Dunlap, I don't think either of them considered themselves to be scholars, nor were they
  recognized as such by academia. I think obviously they are very bright men, but the term scholar denotes an achievement of expertise and letters in a particular field. The WTS so bastardizes the orginal Bible texts in order to support their doctrines, that no "scholar" would dare be associated with them.

  Perhaps you are correct about some well meaning, bright people waiting at HQ for an opportunity to set the ship aright, but a really smart person, knowing the truth about the WTS would most likely leave and either join another group of likeminded people or form his/her own group of likeminded people.

  Sometimes I wish my mother would shun me. But I've never been DF'd or DA'd so she won't. Everytime I see her now she starts weeping and begging me to read some of the WTS mags and books she gives me. I try to be the kind son, but it's very hard to do, knowing what I know about JW's.

  i am shocked at the many accusations against jehovah's witnesses in this forum.. i know that i am young, but most of my family are jws and they are good people and i love them.

  even my worldly family is very nice and i do not shun them.

  the friends in the hall are very nice also.

  Scully:

  That's an interesting point you make about blood transfusions and surgery for this disorder. My next door neighbor has the same disease and his doctor has been treating him with a drug. So far it has lowered his red count down to normal levels. I suppose there could be variations of this disease that require different treatments, but your point seems valid here.

  My son plays AAU baseball on a team here in Jacksonville and has played against Chet Lemon's AAU teams for the past three years from 11 through 14 years of age. My wife has had numerous phone conversations with Chet and his wife Gigi regarding AAU tournaments and games and during all of these years we had no idea that Chet was a JW. We knew he had been very ill from time to time, but not that he was a dub.

  Since I'm not a doctor I would never make any recommendations to him about how to treat his illness, but I would hate to think that refusal of any treatment, because of the weird pronouncements of the WTS on blood transfusions might cost him his health or life.

  JX's in the Mexican Army!

  one of the many things that totally amazed me when i first read ray franz's first book was the way in which jw's bribed the authorities to get their "pink slip" to say they had completed military service.

  not only that, they were also listed as reservists for the mexican army.. does any one know if those jw's are still listed, and if so, shouldn't they be d?a's by their actions?
